Week Two: Okay, We Could Get Used to This
Week two of full-time RV life is officially in the books.
And you know what?
This week felt different.
Our first week on the road flew by in a blur of new places, new routines, and approximately 847 tiny things we had to figure out about living in an RV. Week two, though, felt much more…normal.
Which is probably the biggest lesson we've learned so far:
This isn't a vacation. This is home.
And this week, home happened to be parked in one of the most spectacular RV resorts we've ever experienced.
Bay Point Landing: We May Have Been Spoiled
We spent the week at Bay Point Landing RV Resort in Coos Bay, Oregon, and wow.
This place is extraordinary.
Perched on the shores of beautiful Coos Bay, our site gave us front-row seats to incredible sunsets, constantly changing skies, and an impressive collection of water birds.
The birds have been particularly entertaining for the cats.
Dinkel and Æro have apparently decided that RV life comes with their very own nature channel. Every time we looked toward the windows, there seemed to be another bird flying, landing, diving, or generally putting on a show.
And Then There Were the Amenities…
We knew we'd be staying at a nice RV resort.
We weren't quite prepared for this nice.
Bay's Landing has concierge service, which means you can literally text a request and have things delivered directly to your site.
Need firewood? Text. Want a grill? Text. S'mores kit? Yup – text them, and it will be delivered.
There is also a beautiful, heated saltwater pool, a well-appointed gym, plenty of community fire-pit areas, and the shower facilities were legit!
After a week of figuring out the basics of RV life, having a place where everything was easy felt pretty darn luxurious.
And yes, we're aware this may have set the bar dangerously high for the rest of our travels.
A Little Exploring
Even though we really didn’t want to leave the resort, we did get out and explore some of the beautiful Oregon coast.
Nearby Cape Arago State Park and Shore Acres State Park were highlights, with gorgeous botanical gardens and spectacular coastal views.
At Simpson Beach, we also had the chance to watch seals and sea lions hanging out along the shoreline. (You can hear them barking for miles around.)
The Cats Are Settling In…Mostly
The cats continue to amaze us.
Dinkel and Æro seem to be settling into RV life remarkably well. They've become comfortable with the space, the sounds, and the routine—and they seem to be getting even clingier with us.
Dinkel did decide to test the boundaries of his new lifestyle this week by making a break for it.
Unfortunately for him, he had not accounted for one important detail: Oregon is cold and wet.
The moment he discovered that the ground was cold and damp, he apparently reconsidered his great escape. He froze under the rig, and Brandon was able to scoop him up and bring him straight back inside.
Lesson learned? Yes, we're going to be extra careful with that door.
And Just Like That…We're Moving Again
It seems almost too soon, but tomorrow we'll pack everything back up, secure the cats, check our checklists, and point the RV toward our next adventure.
California, here we come.
Two weeks ago, we were leaving Duvall and wondering what this new life would actually feel like.
Now we're already getting into the rhythm of moving on, discovering somewhere new, and making ourselves at home wherever we park.
Week two taught us that we're not just experimenting with full-time RV life anymore.
We're living it.
And so far, we really, really like it.
Week Two Lesson: This Is Starting to Feel Like Home
Perhaps the biggest change this week wasn't something we saw or did.
It was how we felt.
During our first week, everything felt like an experiment. Where do we put things? How do we work? How do we cook? How do we shower? How do we keep two cats happy in a motorhome?
This week, those things started becoming routine.
We worked. We cooked. We explored. We relaxed. We watched the sunset. We went about our days.
And somewhere along the way, it stopped feeling like we were camping and started feeling like we were simply living.
Next stop: California.
Let the adventure continue. 🍷🚐
